PRODUCTIVE WORK
SUPW OR Socially
Useful Productive Work is an important part of B.Ed. curriculum. The programme
is developed through Gandhian Philosophy of Basic Education through work. It
provides maximum possibilities of integrating knowledge belonging to other
subject areas and adopting the inter disciplinary approach in teaching
learning. The Organisation in charged with execution of this programme in
Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud was Kerala Gandhi Smaraka
Nidhi. The faculties from Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi visited the classes at regular
intervals and introduced the importance of the concept of SUPW and various
basic skills related with it were given training. Classes were taken by beloved
Mr. Ummar and Mr. Sukumar sir. Mostly the programme was concentrated making
products essentially needed for Domestic purpose. Training were given on the
production of Toilet cleaning Lotion, Toilet Soap, Detergent Powder and Dish
wash powder. Hands on training were provided in the classes. The SUPW
initiative was one of the significant programme conducted during the first
semester of our B.Ed. degree course where we were equipped with some basic
skills for economic sustenance.
